Decking it out

I took some work-in-progress photos of this custom deck Im illustrating (and no, its not for any bullsh+t exhibit; Im just doing it for the heck of it). Just going out of my comfort zone which happens to be digital illustration. Yes sir, its not all about photoshop; from time to time, a kid needs to pick up a real live pencil too and get down to it! A real brush and some real acrylic paints are next!

Sino tatay mo, Darth Vader?

Sino Tatay Mo? means "who's your daddy?" in the Tagalog language. The typography is courtesy of Quix Marquez (http://quiccs.deviantart.com/) who sent it across to collaborate on. Anyhow Im a big fan of Daft Punk but not really much of a Darth Vader enthusiast. But I came across this amazing illustration of the pop duo (http://www.fanpop.com/spots/daft-punk/images/8312169/title/daft-punk), and i think the same style works for my take on the Star Wars villain.

Hiphop for Haiti (brownmonkeys + PSP)

Thursday, March 25th to “HipHop for Haiti” at the Shelter in AlQuoz Industrial 4. When we got there, the party was already in full swing; the kids were doing their bboy moves on the floor, so our crew got to working the walls asap. I was there more of less to document the event, but in the end I picked up a can and started to draw some mushroom shit next to Joseph’s giant pink worm. My efforts were pretty messed up but then again it was a first time effort. Excellent work by Melancholy, Cloud88 and Deform Industry. Cheers guys!

"Kanto" by the Brownmonkeys at the MinD Exhibit

The Brownmonkeys, a Dubai-based art collective (of which Im part of) were asked to participate at the MinD Exhibit, held at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates. The exhibit featured works from over 20 artists, from audio-visual installations, sculture and wall art. The Brownmonkeys' stuff consisted of 120 mini-frames, each one a sketch/painting/doodle; artwork for the most part, revolves around the random strangers one meets in Dubai and quirks of being in this strange city. The MinD exhibit runs from March 12 to March 22, 2010.
